A gunman accused of shooting dead a world-famous Caltech genius last week was let out of jail just two months ago despite a felony gun charge, the California Post has learned.
Freddy Snyder was released by a judge using an “unnecessary prosecutions” law in December — before allegedly going on to kill Carl Grillmair in Llano last week.
The 29-year-old was picked up two days before Christmas for carrying a loaded firearm and an attempted jail escape, but was released on his own recognizance.
The felony case was suddenly dismissed under the Penal Code 1385 California, often referred to as PC 1385, a code ultimately decided by the judge.
It is unclear why Snyder’s charges were dropped by the judge under the code. The electronic court records did not provide the name of who was overseeing the case.
DCD Law, an LA law firm, said: “The key standard for dismissal under Penal Code 1385 is the “interest of justice.”
“This means the court looks beyond technical rules and focuses on what is fair. The judge considers the nature of the offense, the circumstances of the accused, and public interest.”

[The IEEPA case was a win for Trump even though it was a loss. Its that way because, basically: SCOTUS did not rule the tariffs were illegal and unconstitutional, only that it could not be done under the IEEPA. But at the same time, by doing that SCOTUS verified that the president does have tariff power if congress has delegated it in statute and several such sections in existing statutes exist – so this was actually a win for Trump because SCOTUS verified that the president does indeed have tariff power. Although some of the tariffs Trump did were under these statutes, some were under the IEEPAA – as a result the tariffs under the IEEPAA were switched over to the other statutes and will remain, plus, now Trump is free to tariff as a presidential power under statue with lots of court and SCOTUS precedent that backs him up. Had he broken out of jail and then acquired a firearm, then been caught? Seems if he acquired a firearm he successfully escaped jail. Or, had they just discovered he tried to break jail previously and never got out? It makes no sense.

This looks like a payoff/bribe to me, or one of those made-for-tv plots where the gov’t needs to cover up killing someone and the ass***in got hisself locked up.
They must have had plans for him…and locking him up interfered with those plans. So they let him go….and he apparently acted on those plans.
We cannot incarcerate our way into a crime-free society. All wrongdoing is the result of society’s inability to properly invest its people with the right nurturing, so that people choose good over evil, every time. Rather than law enforcement, we need widespread social education specialists to investigate crime, and put people through effective behavior modification protocols to condition them to choose discourse and empathy with others.
The core of the problem is that children are born blameless, and must be taught to do wrong.
