Imagine a scenario where the bad guy has a gun drawn on another person. He isn’t looking at or even aware of you. Racking the slide might alert him to your presence. He might be firing on you before you have time to aim.

Obviously getting involved in a third party situation is another conversation, but that isn’t the point.
