It also doesnt help when you cant trust your leadership because to move up (get promoted) in the department it usually requires you to go after other cops.

Law Enforcement is a cannibalistic career field. They eat their own and form little cliques and gangs for power and protection and God help you, if you go against the clique or get shunned by the good ol’ boy club. It’s why most cops will resign before getting fired because getting fired could mean getting black-balled by a large agency which will make it next to impossible to find another cop job.

After 22 years I had to pull the plug. It’s all good though, I’m semi-retired and work happily in a warehouse now.

There are no standards for police officers anymore. Nobody wants to do the job so they take what they can get. In my state, half the graduating officers from the state academy are females that are barely 5 feet tall and under 150lbs.

What are they going to do to a 6ft+ tall 250lbs man?

Nothing.

At worst they will get the tar beat out of them, at best they will be forced to use lethal force in situations that dont require it because the less than lethal options still require them to put handcuffs on the subject.

Plus, who wants to work for sociopath politicians that will throw you under the bus the first chance they get?

Standards have always been pretty low. Do what your told, always defer to higher rank, don’t think too hard about what your doing or you might hesitate and get hurt, everyone out there is a potential threat to your safety, gotta get home at night, back your brothers/sisters in all things.

They’re not the brightest, they’re not the best. They’re under a lot of stress. They self-medicate and engage in domestic violence at levels far greater than the general public. In their defense it’s a shit job dealing with the same assholes every night and for a long time in their careers it comes with shit pay. I can’t believe anyone willingly or eagerly wants to be a cop which in itself is sort of a red flag regarding who actually wants the job.
