The general gist of your article is on the money but there are a few factual errors that detract from your argument:
1. The bloke in that photo with the pile of handed in guns is not Prime Minister John Howard. It's some random police officer from that time.
2. Australian police have long been armed. While it varies state by state as to when the practice was standard procedure - mostly from the late 1970s, New South Wales, where this atrocity occurred, has been arming their cops on the beat since the 1890s.
3. Mask mandates are gone, including on airlines. While they could come back at anytime, there is nowhere in the country that will force you to wear a mask outside of clinical settings - like operating theatres.

One of the interesting points that has come out of this has been the white washing of the police that day. As you point out, the police officers on the scene took cover and did very little. There is a police station within a few hundred metres from the incident scene. It would seem the only backup came in the form of a police detective armed only with his side arm. He had no body armour and took out the Dad terrorist from 40m away. Volunteer surf lifeguards on duty at the beach were the first responders. What the incident showed was that official first responders totally failed and if not for actions of volunteers, heroic private citizens and seemingly one lightly armed detective, it would have been a whole lot worse

Don't forget the gentlemen in a Texas trailer park who used his old-school .357 Magnum revolver to take down a man who had just murdered his neighbor/s and was in a shootout with the lone police officer at the scene. The murderer had a thick tree for cover and pinned down the police officer behind his patrol car. Imagine the murderer's surprise when a .357 Magnum bullet hit him (also in the thigh) from the side and took him down. If I remember correctly, that shot was every bit of 50 yards if not farther.

This makes me think that I should try some shots at 50 yards with my "everyday carry" semi-auto pistol to see how accurate I am at that distance. I have simulated this with dry-fire practice and it sure seems like I would be able to land good hits on an adult-sized attacker at that range. Simulations, of course, can be different from reality so I should very the accuracy of my simulation (and hence the accuracy of my marksmanship at significant distances). On the plus side, I have practiced with a large .44 Magnum revolver at 50 yards and seemed to be able to land basically all shots on a 6-inch round steel plate. If I can do it with a revolver shooting single-action, I should also be able to do the same with a semi-auto pistol.

She's probably of French ancestry.

43 yards is pretty good. Eli Dickin did 40 yards. I know someone who once took down a bad guy at 70 yards with a Beretta 92 9mm, wounded the bad guy in upper inner thigh but didn't kill him.

Even with that, don't outsource your safety to the government. The only incentive they have to protect you is your status as a tax slave.

The next time the Democrats sweep the government, they will dismantle the filibuster, pack the courts and all but suspend the 2nd. This is a certainty. We are one bad recession away from this. Start thinking about how you will prepare and react to this moment now.

Get a gun, and at least some basic training on how to operate your gun and some training in how to operate the basics of most common guns like 'safety on-off' & 'rack-load' and 'point-shoot'. The hero that grabbed the terrorist with the shot gun and took it away from him, he didn't know how to operate the shotgun which let the terrorist escape back to the bridge to re-arm to continue the attack. Never let a terrorist walk away like that, put them down 'cause if you don't these fanatics will just escape to re-arm and come back.

But, some really brave people there to charge into the danger to try to stop it to save lives of others without regard for their own lives - those types are called heroes.

If this had happened in a blue state here in the U.S., the terrorist would get lefty praise publicly and already be out of jail with no bail and democrats would already be having margaritas with them, the hero with the shotgun would be arrested for unlicensed firearms possession and then prosecuted to ruin his life, the the left wingers on line would be calling for more murder of innocent people.

I will say it because nobody else will. This has been a modern islamic invasion of christiandom in the 20th and 21st centuries.

Individual Muslims are traveling to the west. In order to take it over. And once they achieve numbers in the size of an army. Then they can make their move, either individually or in groups.

Unfortunately , the west doesn't view millions of individual muslims coming to their country as an invading army , because they're not carrying guns.

But they are armed. They had each have two good ones.

And they simply obtain the weapons in the west and then use them to kill westerners. Is family in Australia a perfect example.

The father who committed these murders came with his wife to Australia. Later they had a son born in Australia. And then the native born australian son and the pakistani born father, immigrant, decided to murder Australian citizens.

Attacks against beach swimmers is not new. In both Tunisia and Mexico attacks against civilians have occurred.

But if you're serious about defending yourself while you're swimming??? Then maybe you should invest in that two hundred year old (+) technology called the revolver.

In the west you are never going to be able to open carry at the beach. It would be scary to the uneducated.

And the people who try to do it, will probably lose their guns in the process. Because they get careless.

The military has always been expected to use a lanyard on their handgun. And for a very good reason.
