I want to fill my freezer first, though, which is going to be a challenge this year because Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease has DECIMATED the deer population where I hunt. (Many people are estimating that disease killed off around 70% of the deer herd in the general area where I usually hunt.) I normally need four deer minimum (and five deer gives me a small cushion) to sustain my family for a full year. Thus far I only have three in the freezer–and two of them are on the smaller side.

I will see if time and conditions allow for extra harvest and donation.
