I suspect that like food stuffs, meds are marked as the “best by date” rather than expired or no longer good for use. As with all things the effectiveness of ingredients change over time.

<i>"Of course the defensive ammo rotation thing is endorsed by ammo manufacturers…it generates sales."</i>

I thought the same. It's like getting rid of medications over a year old. Does the military do that? I've heard that they stockpile meds for a long time. It's weird how all meds expire in exactly one year.

I have heard of an instance of a carry gun not firing because of gunk build up. You could always take the ammo out, and wipe it down, clean your magazines, etc.

Of course the defensive ammo rotation thing is endorsed by ammo manufacturers...it generates sales.

I used to rotate ammo every 6 months, tossing the old stuff into a can to be used at the ranger later. Then one day I realized that I had been doing this for nearly 3 decades, and in all that time, not a single round of the stuff that was rotated out, ever failed to function. Not a single round...ever....in nearly 30 years.

As far as the rest of this goes, visual inspection is always a good idea, but "drop testing", every round is excessive...assuming you are if you are using quality ammo from a reputable company....and not any of that crap Sig offers.
