Petti had a right to be armed: so what? Was it wise? Was it wise to commit a federal felony by shoving a LEO and resisting arrest while he was armed? Did he have a constitutionally guaranteed right to shove a LEO and resist arrest while armed?

It is one thing to attend a peaceful protest while armed, and something else to attend a protest while armed and then to assault a LEO and resist arrest. How many people here think it is wise to assault LEOs while armed?

And as far as open carry goes at these protests, the “gun community” has a very poor track record of supporting the open carry of long guns.

The “banana in my holster” protest in texas, several years ago was not universally supported.

And for me, it has been very disappointing to see the many examples, of lawful gun owners being chastised and criticized.

Because they open carry their firearms.

Either as a form of political protest or to protect their private property. When a riot is going on.
And riots didn’t come to the neighborhoods who publicly open carried their long guns.

This goes back to the 1960s and the Mulford Act and don’t talk to me about governor Reagan.

Again…context matters. Yes, he had the right to be armed, and to protest while armed. But NOT to act like a moron by forcing a confrontation with Federal agents.

He is dead because he acted stupid, not simply because he was armed at a protest.

It’s the confronting of police that’s the issue. You don’t protest Law Enforcement – you protest the politicians…..

Seriously, carrying a pistol to a protest, and then forcing a confrontation with heavily armed Federal agents in body armor…makes you a moron. Not a responsible gun owner exercising their constitutional rights.
