Great review! It’s funny you mentioned the Walther influence, because the comments section is already heating up with the Beretta Model 70 comparison. I’ve always found these old Argentinian imports fascinating, but cleaning that cosmoline is definitely a rite of passage. Since you mentioned the odd safety manual and ergonomics, I’ve been trying to find more info on the original maintenance specs. Does anyone know if the guide mentioned here https://www.olficamera.com/forums/users/darell1/engagements/ covers the specific spring tensions for the 844, or is that mostly for the newer Thunder models?

Another online idiot who keeps comparing the Bersa pistols to Walthers. The three guys who started Bersa (B,Er, and Sa are the first letters in their first name) were Italian immigrants who were also engineers. The middle guy had worked for Beretta. The Bersa pistols are all copies of the Italian Beretta Model 70 not the German Walther. They redesigned the slide release a couple times after the 383-A settling on the modern style slide release, but the rest of the design of the later pisols in the thunder lineup is still a Beretta Model 70.

I don't like it when people keep repeating the myth that these somehow have influence from the Walther PP... These were copied from the Beretta model 70.

In this configuration, I agree. Too manny safeties and too hard to manipulate.

But if Beretta resurrected the model 70 with the 1911-style safety and normal slim grips (not those morphedite target grips), I’d buy one in a heartbeat.

Nice, sleek little pistol.

For history, yeah, for carry, dubious.

Single-action only makes it... cumbersome to carry...

I’d probably buy it as well.

But I’m thinking Bersa dorked-up the Beretta Model 70 design.

Definitely looks like a 70 on the frame, especially with the cross bolt safety and low-side mag release.

Adding a solid-top slide with a slide mounted safety certainly makes it clear that Argentina was not on the cutting edge of firearm design.

But an interesting piece of history nonetheless.
