I attended West Virginia University, which has a history of turning out Olympic shooting champions. You’ve heard of Mary Lou Retton in gymnastics — but WVU rifle instructor Ed Etzel brought home the gold in 50m prone rifle at the same event, Los Angeles 1984. In 2016, WVU student Ginny Thrasher won the first gold medal of the Rio Olympics.
