We are still restricted in type – semiautomatics are near-impossible to obtain – but the ignorance of the hoplophobes knows no bounds. So lever actions etc, those which can also be rapid-firing, are all fine. Now, I’m a feral vermin hunter (pigs, deer, goats, foxes etc) and don’t need rapid fire rates above that which a bolt action can achieve. Yet I’ve still got a few lever actions including a rather cool lever action magazine-fed 12 gauge Pardus shotgun specifically for rabbits and foxes on the run.
Basically, the hoplophobes have failed spectacularly here.
Ironically and this will surprise nobody, the criminals have easy access to guns, especially 9mm Glocks which are their status symbol.
Because, criminals don’t obey the law… funny that.
The standard hoplophobe response to criminals using illegal smuggled-in guns is to try to punish the law-abiding gun owner. Again, this won’t surprise you.

We Australian shooters see this stuff… its just lame Australian media panic stories being reinterpreted by American shooting press without any clue what our media’s articles mean.

The National Firearms Database story… every state has its own VERY comprehensive system, and they are badly designed and will be a bitch to harmonise. They have a system called Crimtrac, which extracts from each state to let Feds and interstate police get what the other states have.

The increase in numbers… yes there are new shooters coming into the sport, but its also mostly that us old guys are gradually adding to the battery without bringing in new shooters.

There is no carry, open or concealed.

There is no license issued for self-defence even in the home, even for those at immediate risk from gangsters.

Feral animal problems are increasing as shooters are driven out or blocked by bureaucrats, as the social climate for hunting is very hostile. Major feral problems with rabbits, cats, dogs, pigs, goats, deer and camels. Kangaroos and emus are also a big issue for farmers.

And in Western Australia we are being driven out by a VERY malicious and dishonest new gun control law.
