Yes, you can arrest and imprison your way out of a crime wave. You just have to be willing to do it.

El Salvador is an outstandingly successful example.

Unfortunately.
In the United States you have people complaining that our prison population is too large. And so proposition 47 was passed in california.

And the prisoner in jail population did go down, and shoplifting crime skyrocketed in the state of california.
