Yes, responsible gun ownership (and CERTAINLY regular carry) requires education and training. Maybe I hang with a "weird crowd", but pretty much all the gun owners I know (i) have taken classes on shooting techniques, (ii) practice their shooting regularly, (iii) have educated themselves on gun safety, and (iv) are at least familiar with laws relating to gun use or carry. But I know that isn't true for some gun owners. But that is less silly than the insane notion that "the government" is equipped and knowledgeable enough to identify, define, and mandate "appropriate" training. The various state DMVs define what skills are required to obtain a driver's license. In many states, the state DMV defines the requirements and standards for those classes. Lastly, the state DMVs actually do the testing and approve or deny applications for DLs. And we all know that you can drive your whole life and NEVER see an incompetent or unsafe driver, amirite???

I'll give a hard pass on "government-mandated/administered" firearms training, thankyouverymuch. I've occupied too many shooting lanes next to local LEOs who were "practicing for their required shooting qualification" to take that seriously.
