Watching the uniformed female law enforcement/security officer stand there with her hands in her pockets as gun fire goes off down the hall was maddening. Then meandering down the hall while a man in a suit leads the way and appeared to be the one to eventually stop the threat. The female officer is joined by another officer who appears to be female, and they stand behind a wall a long time while multiple shots are fired, one of then shifting her gun from hand to hand as shown by the body cam, instead of engaging the threat. As a retired police officer and ministry security director that was incredible to watch. That church had a plan, unfortunately it included some officers who were not up for the challenge. I understand I was not there and I am making observations way after the fact, but what I saw was not an acceptable response.

The Jack Wilson incident showed two guys coming up after the bad guy is down, one rounding the corner of the pews and then covering Jack with his gun, and a second guy following with his gun pointed at the back of the guy in front of him. Couldn't tell but I would guess fingers were on triggers.

Good guys with guns stop bad guys with guns, but not all good guys should be carrying guns.

If the members of a congregation truly believe, then they will resist any rational explanation. Their members will be sitting ducks.

It's not that one congregation will take the hit. And that one congregation will dissolve. It doesn't work that way.

One congregation in a sect of many will take the hit because that sect refuses to recognize reality. A minority of members of the numerous congregations in that sect will see that it is the policy of the sect that makes them vulnerable. This minority who sees reality will leave their respective congregations.

Gradually, membership in congregations in that sect will decline. One congregation after another will fail. Without enough members to maintain the overhead, the congregation must inevitably fail.

With all the other factors eroding religious group membership, this is just one more. Religious groups are committed to an ideology, not self-preservation. That ideology will end their chances of survival.

And God also helps many by equipping them with tools and capabilities. And He actually expects you to use them. That's why He gave them to you.
But that's the inverse of the "helps those who help themselves" bit. That's God saying "I've already helped you, so get to it."

Speaking of attacks on churches... there was one stopped before it could begin in East Sacramento on February 18, 2026.

about 9:30 a.m. the wanna be killer, Brian Richard Girardot Jr. (possibly trans), attempted to enter St. Mary Catholic Church, which is on the same property as the K-8 school, during an all-school Mass. An off-duty police detective was attending the Ash Wednesday Mass as “parent observer” and noticed the guy, and disarmed him. The wanna be killer had a Taurus Tracker .44 Magnum revolver.

Former student wrote threats before bringing loaded gun to Sacramento Catholic school.

"
...
'The off-duty detective spoke with the individual and during the interaction located and removed a loaded handgun from the person,' a police spokesperson said Wednesday.
...
The gun found on Girardot’s person was a Taurus Tracker .44 Magnum revolver.

Later, officers searched Girardot’s home, officials said. Inside, they found a series of handwritten notes stacked in his bedroom that contained references to suicide and threats.

One of the notes listed three relatives and the statement 'All of you are the reason I’ve done this,' according to court documents. Another note read 'Suicide Note f*** you' on one side and '… rest of y’all … f*** you die!!!' on the other.

'Girardot admitted to writing the notes officers found in his bedroom but claimed he had written them a while ago and just takes them out and looks at them,' the document states. 'The notes were found on top of a pile, however, suggesting that he had recently placed or moved the notes there.'

The Federal Bureau of Investigation and Sacramento police are investigating the incident, according to a news release. Assistant U.S. Attorney Elliot Wong is prosecuting the case.

Girardot was charged in federal court Thursday with possessing a firearm within a school zone, U.S. Attorney Eric Grant said. He faces a similar charge in state court.

If convicted, Girardot would face a statutory maximum of five years in prison for the federal charge.

[note: had this wanna be killer waited until the mass was over, students would have been back in class rooms, no more 'parent observers' around, and nothing to stop him from rampaging through the school. If he had come in firing instead of acting suspicious it might have been deadly.]

"God helps those who help themselves" is probably the most often quoted phrase that IS NOT found in the Bible.

Its usually attributed to Ben Franklin due to the quote in Poor Richard’s Almanac in 1757. It actually originated from Algernon Sydney in 1698 in an article titled 'Discourses Concerning Government'

The Bible teaches the opposite. Its a mis-understanding, its a context-use interpretation contraction of Isaiah 25:4 which says "For You have been a defense for the helpless, a defense for the needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm, a shade from the heat..." and this is a reference to salvation. And later that salvation in terms of this helplessness is referenced in Romans 5:6 that says "For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly." - these are references to salvation, as in terms of our spiritual salvation we are all helpless thus need this defense and refuge and shade which God provided via Jesus (i.e. Christ died for the ungodly). So the Bible does not teach that 'God helps those who help themselves', but rather the opposite that we can not help ourselves to salvation as that only comes from accepting the salvation provided by God.
