The problem, Josephine, is that our society is rapidly going extinct because not enough people are having not enough children.

Meanwhile certain other countries have burgeoning populations that will continue to spill into our depopulated lands and drown out our unique culture and society.

Maybe you are ok with that. But my point is that we owe it to those past and future generations not to let the light go out.

I know many don’t want to hear it, but each of us has a responsibility both to past and future generations to perpetuate our nation.

We, each of us, actually does owe it to our forefathers and to our descendants to maintain our traditions, enhance our society, and propagate our culture into the future. And the best, most essential way to do that is to have children.

In short, it’s not all about you, or me. Of course some percentage of us won’t be able to have children for one good reason or another, but the presumptive life path should include getting married, having children, developing them (e.g. teaching them about firearms), and striving to put them in the best possible position to succeed in their lives, including the forging of their new link—by having children themselves—in the ancient chain that connects us past, present and future.

Ask yourself how your parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, and so on would feel about you never having children: all their efforts amounted to that branch of their tree—our tree—shriveling and dying out.

It’s true: your life is your own, but you have a long succession of ancestors who struggled and fought to survive and thrive, to advance, to recover when down, and never to give up, culminating in your birth with all the advantages attendant to it and to wider society.

Perhaps too much emphasis has been placed on individual liberty and the right to pick one’s own path in life, without teaching how to channel that autonomy toward ends that inure to the benefit and survival of one’s nation.

Freedom unstructured is chaos. The personal right to decide whether to marry, have children, etc is now well established in Western societies, but in focusing so heavily on personal choice we have excluded personal responsibility from the conversation.

That is to say, it’s your responsibility to have children. Again, in the particular there may be any number of good reasons why that is impossible, but if none of those are operative, you should get married and start a family.

Our society should expect people to strive to reproduce, and look askance at those who selfishly reject that responsibility.

Importing people from other societies into ours so they will replace us in working and having children is not a smart solution: it’s cultural suicide.

If there is a point to life from a biological perspective, it’s to propagate your genetic material to the next generation. From a Christian perspective God instructs us to be fruitful and multiply. No amount of navel-gazing ennui is going to change that for our society.

For most of us, having and raising children is the best thing we will do in our lives. It’s our lasting contribution to society. The evidence of our existence. The thing that truly mattered.

Unfortunately, many young people—women in particular—have been sold a bill of goods by third-wave feminism and modern culture. That somehow a life without children is the best way to self-actualization. Nothing could be further from the truth. But many of us live in a miasma of delusion, often only realizing our folly after it’s too late to change the road we’re on.

Seems timely enough for me.
