In an indirect and direct manner, this armed citizen (the ‘homeowner’ in the article) was a hero as this armed citizen essentially stopped an ‘attempted’ ‘mass-shooting’ from happening. Spears wasn’t just firing at one car (the one he hit, he just happen to have hit that one), he was intentionally firing at any passing cars and at the homes while on that porch where he was engaged by this armed citizen hero. So in effect Spears was conducting a mass-shooting attempt if he realized it or not. Because the hero armed citizen put some deterrence in Spears, it caused Spears to flee to lick his wounds thus stopping him from firing at cars and homes thus stopping what was essentially in effect a mass shooting attempt.
