The home occupants need a lot of sympathy because a stranger breaking in with a weapon in the middle of the night is off-the-charts traumatic. Remember, at the time it was happening, the home occupants had zero idea of the invader’s or invaders’ intentions and capabilities. That is beyond frightening.

This is where sympathy should be expressed and applied. Butt too often the left and the media misapplies sympathy. The bad guy deserves to pay his debt to the victim(s) and society. Any sympathy for the bad guy should be for good luck with rehabilitation.
