About the scope mount… You should work deer sight-ins at your local range. You’ll see that mounting all day.

It’s done by people who never shot prone in their life. Fits ok standing if you bend your neck over. It’s also great for giving scope eye when shooting from a bench off sandbags.

Not really sure on the optic. Looks kinda Steiner’ish (the body lines) but its not Steiner because they are smooth at the rear and the one in the pic seems to have a darker ‘texturered’ band on the rear eyepiece (unless something was added aftermarket). The pic is too blurry to see tale-tale details. I agree with you though, it does look like a variable scope with 42mm objective.

Yeah, kinda Mauser 18’ish looking almost but I sense a hint of Mauser 12 too, but the rear of the bolt looks a little too fat for those and more along the lines of a the older Mauser 98. I notice the scope mounting too, it is weird. And that front scope ring is not where its suppose to be, maybe some sort of DIY thing? Its not a current model from Mauser though, I’m thinking its maybe one of their first lines when they opened up in 1999 because their first lines used a lot of the old Mauser 98 bolt design which looks like that in the pic.
