Its been long over due, 1992 there was a process to which a felon could apply and have their gun rights restored. That's a fact!!! however democrats found a way to have their biggest gun (grab) law to date, STOP THE FUNDING SO THE ATF WAS PROHIBITED FROM TAKING APPLICATIONS AND USING TAXPAYER MONEY TO GRANT RELIEF. Then over the years both parties just went along with violating "We the people" second amendment rights ........till NOW when President Trump through his kangaroo court indictment and he found himself in a situation were he was a felon and lost his gun rights, how stupid could it get the man with the nuclear codes couldn't own a gun, the man who shot outside couldn't carry a gun. The second part of this take over of rights was to create and pass more laws that would be a felony so you would loss your rights we have laws on top of laws. The third part of this massive federal take over was to produce and regurgitate propaganda over and over to fear monger the country into believing guns were bad and evil instruments with the backing of little to no statistical evidence whats so ever. Gun can be deadly no doubt about, but its the person in use of the gun that's the brains of its operation and if used in a unlawful manner will reap the consequence that's what all those laws are for. The fact that someone could loss there gun rights for writing a bad check or lying to congress, or many other reasons is inherently wrong. If you have paid your debt to society then you should be whole when your released in civilization.

There absolutely must be a sunset on the Lautenburgh act where a misdemeanor domestic incident should not automatically cause the person charged with a lifetime ban on second amendment rights.
All it takes is one of the parties to be convinced to sign a restraining order weather a trial has occurred or not to lose your rights for life!
Rapists, felons are able to restore their rights but not spouses who argued with an intoxicated partner, not even any physical contact!

My name is Robert and I am 53 and at the age of 18 my cousin and I made a bad decision to go into the school at night in which we ran up and down the halls and acted stupid with our stupid decision but I turned myself I plead guilty to burglary 2nd degree felony paid $30 a month $750 restitution for 4 years and because of this stupid decision I’m still being punished by not being able to practice my 2nd amendment. I’m not a violent person
But I really would enjoy going hunting with my son and granddaughter. I hope President Trump and Pam Bondi would fix this so I and the 1,000s of others like myself who did that one stupid thing that still to this day follows me.

In reply to <a href="https://staging.shootingnewsweekly.com/atf/thanks-to-trump-and-bondi-non-violent-offenders-will-once-again-have-an-opportunity-to-get-their-gun-rights-back/comment-page-1/#comment-28988">Nanette Prisbrey</a>.

Being convicted of something doesn't necessarily mean you are a criminal for the rest of your life.

I know a guy, who at age 17 was convicted of a felony - wilful destruction of property. That made him a 'convicted criminal'.

At age 17, with parents permission, he had enlisted in the Marines. He was scheduled to leave for boot camp. The day before leaving for boot camp, that evening, he met with some friends. They had gathered at a common meeting spot, a parking lot of a grocery store that had closed for the night - a place they had gathered many times before. While there, feeling that exuberance of youth, he stepped on the gas and did donuts in the parking lot. It just so happened an employee leaving the store after its closing decided, for some reason, to push a shopping cart towards the parking lot. The shopping cart veered towards a down hill slope in the parking lot and right into the path of this kid doing the donuts. The car hit the cart, damaged it. Well, the store employee called the police who responded and arrested the kid, he did not make his departure for boot camp.

This 17 year old was convicted of a felony - wilful destruction of property - because he was 'driving recklessly' at the time due to the donuts.

Anyway, a month later he did make his departure for boot camp. Went on to serve 22 years in the Marines, got married, had two kids, wounded twice and was medically retired from military honorably a decorated veteran. Started his own business after retirement, owns a home, pays his taxes, family man, ran for political office and won for a county board seat, and serves his community in various capacities from mentoring youth in classes for life skills to aiding the homeless and less fortunate. Basically a life of selfless dedication to country and for the public good of the community. Found out he could not purchase a gun because of that felony conviction when he was 17 years old.

But if he was able to get his 'gun rights back' and purchased a gun, the anti-gun would say he was a convicted-criminal-that-should-not-have-a-gun. Is he a criminal?
