A presidential pardon does not erase a federal conviction, it only grants forgiveness for the crime and sets aside the penalty (jail, fines, etc…) by doing so and removes certain ‘federally based’ civil disabilities (i.e ability to hold office. sit on a jury, voting) and restores certain (but sometimes not all) civil rights. If its a full and and unconditional presidential pardon it can restore all rights including firearm rights that were lost due to a federal conviction but not due to a state conviction, and the same with other restrictions on rights, for example, the person may be able to vote in a federal election but not a state election or hold a state office because the conviction was a state conviction, may not be able to posses a firearm in the state because its a state conviction although generally this doesn’t happen because of the Constitution aspect but the state can deny certain things, for example, a permit.).
